The Possible Answer to Global Hunger

Did you know that across New York, approximately 1.5 million people cannot afford food?  City Harvest has recorded 12 million visits to the food pantries from March through August, with the global pandemic being a huge contributor.  Many said that during these difficult times, the only thing that gave them satisfaction was food, as reported by a NY times article. Additionally, 30% of all food is leftovers that have been wasted.

One of the unique ways poor people can access food is through food pantries. Food pantries supply the destitute with food by taking the excess food from public gatherings (such as schools and hospitals). These pantries make money through large donations from businesses and non-profit organisations.

Although this idea is brilliant in theory and has the potential to change millions of lives, incorporating it into our everyday life is difficult. Creating a system that transports the food is expensive and the limited shelf life of food is an additional deterrent. During this pandemic the amount of people that have lost their jobs has rapidly risen; as a result more people are relying on food pantries. The problem is they don't have enough food to supply everyone.

My solution for this is to try placing leftovers in bags and having drones come collect them, and drop them off at their designated places. Global hunger has been a problem that has been going on since the beginning of humanity; it is our job to eradicate it. Even a small act can drastically change someone's life.
