Random Thoughts

When we think of existence, we think life. So...what is life? According to google, it distinguishes us from inorganic matter. But what are we? Are we just a bunch of organs combined? What makes us human? When did it all start? One day, we just didn’t exist, and then one day we did, and one day we won’t.

Is it our sense of feeling? intuition? Surely there are thousands of animal species who have those gifts too -- take example, chimpanzees. So, are we the same as chimpanzees? No, right? So what makes us unique? Is it love? Is it laughter? Dolphins, rats, orangutans all laugh. Then, is it crying? What is crying? Is it a way to express our emotions? But..why? Why don’t we cry in the moment, rather than after? Is it a way of communication? a process of healing for the mind? There’s just no certain way to know. There might not ever be. But what do we know already?

Time. Time is just a way to measure space...right? We already know, time always moves forward. Past is yesterday, the present is now and the future is tomorrow. But, by the time that idea sparked into your head, it was already in the past. The time it took you to process that thought, it already is in the past. So...what is present? Does time really move forward? Suppose you take a video of yourself swinging a pendulum, and reverse the video. There is no way to tell if it is reversed or not. So what does this mean? Time can go backwards, time can go any direction at all. So, what is time? Was it discovered or invented? We really don’t know at all. Knowledge is like a game. Except, you can’t win -- or lose. You just play to...play.

What about atoms? We know atoms are real, and they are all around us. They are considered the smallest particles of matter. But, where did they come from? Why do they exist? Did they just magically get created when the universe was formed? But then, how was the universe formed? Our theory is it all happened due to the Big Bang. But that is all it ever will be -- a theory. At least, anytime soon.

I like to think of  human knowledge as a tiny box trapped in an empty space. The more we discover, the more it grows bigger. But, it will never be big enough for it to be all encompassing. It will just go forever and ever. We just need to accept that we don’t know everything about everything. All we can do is keep asking questions and learn more about the world around us.
